For example the south side of downtown has thick vegetation, steep hills and jungles with cobblestone streets, very picturesque. Many villas and condos from moderate prices to very high-end. In the downtown area the hotels are generally moderately priced as are the apartments,condos and homes. Some are located close to the beaches, restaurantes and shops, good to walk to everything and some are located in the hills above town. condo or timeshare unit in a location that appeals to you most and the best rates we can find.
North of downtown is the Hotel Zone, with hotels ranging from 3 Stars to 5 Stars in quality. Several timeshares are available in this area along with some condos, including the newer complexes, high-rise and quite luxurious. This area on the coast is flat with sandy beaches. As it curves westward the views of town and the bay are spectacular.
On the north side of the Hotel Zone is the Cruise Ship, Tour Boats and Fishing Boat docks. The Airport is also in this area.
Just north of this is the Boat and Yacht Marina,full of Restaurants, Shops, Condo's, 4-5 Star Hotels and Timeshares.
The beaches are nice, but occasionally get a little rocky. The Marina area also has a golf course surrounded by lovely homes and estates.
North of The Marina area is Nuevo Vallarta, the atmosphere changes here and becomes more spread-out, many say the best beaches are here, mostly newer resorts and timeshares, condo's and a fine residential area with many high-end homes, canals and several golf courses. This is a beautiful location but if you spend your vacation here you should plan on renting a car or expect to pay more for taxis to go into downtown, the Malecon (Boardwalk) and nightspots. This is the place to stay if you are a golfer, however, and if you enjoy getting away from the hubbub. Some resorts in this area are very "family oriented" with many activities for the whole family.

A must in Vallarta! Delicious Food with reasonable prices and great service. Look for the statue of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton out front. Your 2nd drink is free with your main course. Last time we went there for dinner around 7pm and we were surprised that there were only a few diners, but then we realized that it was past dinner time for the locals. The busy times are breakfast and early afternoon when the Mexicanos have their main meal. The atmosphere is great with the sound of the river and the colonial Mexican decor.
